11 KILLED IN KWA MAKHUTHA MASS SHOOTING

Eleven people have been killed and three others injured in a mass shooting in the Ziko area of KwaMakhutha, south of Durban.

The attack happened shortly before 11pm on Tuesday, 22 September, when three armed men allegedly entered a property where 14 people had gathered and opened fire.

Police said the group consisted of 13 men and one woman, who was believed to be pregnant. Ten victims died at the scene, while four others were taken to hospital. One of those injured later succumbed to their injuries, bringing the confirmed death toll to 11.

Among those publicly identified so far are Scelo Zulu and Mlungisi Zulu, two brothers whose mother confirmed their deaths.

The pregnant woman is also among those killed, although her identity has not yet been publicly released.

Police have not yet released the names of all 11 deceased, with families still going through the identification process.

POLICE LAUNCH 72-HOUR MANHUNT

A major police operation has been launched to track down the three suspects believed to be responsible for the shooting.

Investigators are working to establish what led to the attack. Police have said that the motive has not yet been confirmed, although a possible feud between rival groupings has not been ruled out.

Police have also indicated that some of the victims were known to Crime Intelligence in connection with alleged illegal activities. Authorities have not disclosed further details while the investigation continues.

A vehicle belonging to one of the victims was reportedly set alight after the shooting.

The killings have left the KwaMakhutha community in shock, with residents and relatives gathering near the scene as investigators processed the area.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information that could help identify the suspects to come forward.
