Incident Details
According to police reports, the shooting occurred late Wednesday night, February 18, 2026. Officers from the Lentegeur SAPS responded to the scene on Candy Tuff Street at approximately 10:55 PM.
The Scene: Upon arrival, police found the victim lying in the street, already covered by a blanket.
Context: Witnesses indicate that Moulana Wanza had just concluded leading or attending Taraweeh (special Ramadan night prayers) and was leaving the mosque premises when the attack occurred.
Casualties: While Moulana Wanza was fatally wounded, reports indicate a second individual may have also been injured in the crossfire, though their condition has not been officially updated.
Investigation and Motive
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a full-scale investigation into the murder. As of Thursday morning, a motive for the shooting has not yet been established.
Constable Navon Van Houten confirmed the incident, while Michael Jacobs, chairperson of the Lentegeur Community Police Forum (CPF), issued a stern condemnation.
