Four Burnt Bodies Found Near N7 in Dunoon as Police Launch Murder Investigation

DUNOON, CAPE TOWN — Western Cape police have launched a murder investigation after the burnt bodies of four people were discovered in an open field near the N7 in Dunoon on Sunday afternoon.

The disturbing discovery was made near the N7 off-ramp on Malibongwe Drive, where Milnerton police were called to the scene and found the remains of four people lying metres apart in the open field.

According to information released by police and reported by Cape Argus, the bodies had been burnt beyond recognition and the identities of the victims had not yet been established at the time of reporting.

Tyres allegedly used to burn victims

Initial observations made at the crime scene indicated that tyres may have been used to set the victims alight, adding another disturbing element to the investigation.

Police have not yet established exactly what happened to the four victims, how they ended up at the location or what may have motivated the killings.

Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear and that the motive for the murders has not yet been determined.

Detectives attached to the Serious Violent Crime Unit have taken over the investigation, while a murder docket has been opened.

Victims remain unidentified

At the time of the latest police information, all four victims remained unidentified because of the extent of the burning.

Investigators are expected to work with forensic specialists to establish the identities of the deceased and determine what happened before their bodies were discovered.

The location, situated close to the busy N7 and Malibongwe Drive, was cordoned off while crime-scene investigators examined the area and collected possible evidence.

Police have not indicated whether the four victims were killed at the location where their bodies were discovered or whether they were transported there from another location.

Police appeal for information

Police are appealing to anyone who may have information that could assist investigators to come forward.

Members of the public with information about the incident, the identities of the victims or suspicious activity connected to the crime are urged to contact the police.
