Couple Gunned Down in Latest Delft Taxi Violence Incident
Delft, Western Cape – A man and his wife have been shot and killed in a suspected taxi-related attack in Delft, adding to a growing wave of violence linked to the minibus taxi industry in the area. The fatal shooting occurred on the evening of 16 March 2026, near the Palm taxi rank shortly after 8pm. Residents reported hearing multiple gunshots before contacting authorities. Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered the couple inside a silver Toyota Fortuner. Both victims had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were declared dead on the scene. Authorities have confirmed that two counts of murder are under investigation, with suspects still at large. A manhunt has been launched as investigators work to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the attack. Preliminary information suggests that the shooting may be linked to ongoing tensions within the taxi industry — a sector that has seen a spike in deadly violence across parts of Cape Town in recent days. Just days earlier, a separate mass shooting at a Delft taxi rank left three people dead after gunmen opened fire from a minibus taxi before fleeing the scene. That incident, along with others, has raised concerns about escalating conflict between rival taxi groups, with innocent bystanders and commuters often caught in the crossfire. In response to the latest attack, police have increased visibility at taxi ranks and along key transport routes in Delft and surrounding areas in an effort to stabilise the situation. Residents say the continued violence has left communities living in fear, particularly during peak commuting hours and in the evenings when attacks often occur. No arrests have been made, and investigations are ongoing
